The Brightest Sunset (The Darkest Sunrise Duet, #1)

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Bullshit.
Words destroyed me.
“I’m sorry. She didn’t make it.”
“Daddy, he can’t breathe!”
“There’s nothing more we can do for your son.”
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Lies.
Those syllables and letters became my executioner. I told myself that, if I didn’t acknowledge the pain and the fear, they would have no power over me. But, as the years passed, the hate and the anger left behind began to control me.
Two words—that was all it took to plunge my life into darkness.
“He’s gone.”
In the end, it was four soft, silky words that gave me hope of another sunrise.
“Hi. I’m Charlotte Mills.”

*** I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***

The Brightest Sunset is the second and final part in Aly Martinez The Darkest Sunrise Duet. If you read the first book then, you will definitely want to read this one. All I can say with spoilers is just like the first this part was a raw, poignant, heartbreaking read and it will continue to put you through the ringer and pull on all your emotions.

“The day I’d met her, I’d told myself that people entered our lives for a reason, and I was determined to figure out why she had come into mine”.

The Brightest Sunset to picks up from where book one ended with Charlotte and Porter both having to deal with the aftermath of the secrets, events, situation and realisations that have unfolded. It was a situation that nobody wants to be in or have to deal with, and my heart went out to both Charlotte and Porter.

“Everything was going to change, Charlotte. And I swear to you, now matter what happens, we’re going to do that together, okay?”

Like the last book I was hooked from start to finish to this book if not more so, as I just didn’t know how it was all going to play. How could Charlotte and Porter survive this and get the happy ending that they both rightfully deserved, but of course I didn’t need to be worried because Aly did the story and its characters justice, and the ending was just perfect.

“Maybe he was right. We’d been through hell. If ever there were two people who deserved a happily-ever-after, it was us.”

I can’t recommend this series enough; a genuinely heartfelt story that filled my heart with every possible emotion and one you really need to one click it today.

This series will be one of my top reads of 2017.unspecified

abouttheauthorab

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
