The Darkest Sunrise (The Darkest Sunrise Duet, #1)

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Whoever coined that phrase is a bald-faced liar. Words are often the sharpest weapon of all, triggering some of the most powerful emotions a human can experience.
“You’re pregnant.”
“It’s a boy.”
“Your son needs a heart transplant.”
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Syllables and letters may not be tangible, but they can still destroy your entire life faster than a bullet from a gun.
Two words—that was all it took to extinguish the sun from my sky.
“He’s gone.”
For ten years, the darkness consumed me.
In the end, it was four deep, gravelly words that gave me hope of another sunrise.
“Hi. I’m Porter Reese.”

If you’re looking for a raw, poignant, heart-breaking read and love books that will put you through the wringer and make you feel all sorts of emotions, then look no further as The Darkest Sunset (The Darkest Sunrise, #1) by Aly Martinez is just the book for you. This amazing, talented lady has yet again knocked it out of the ballpark with Charlotte and Porter’s story.

“Two people alone in the darkness. No questions. No judgments. No faking it.”

I had so many emotions while I was reading this one. It is a beautifully written emotional story about two people who have suffered tragedies and are still suffering in some way, and that all I’m going to say if you want to know more then you will need to pick up the book and read it. Although I will warn you, once you start you will become so invested in these characters and their story you won’t want to put it down. Aly’s words will circle around you hold you tight and won’t let you go.

“We’ll take it slow and start in the dark if that’s what you need. But I want you in the light, sweetheart. Whatever it takes to get you there I’ll do it.”

There were points in the book when I would get theses sad feelings in the pit of my stomach because I didn’t want the ideas that popped into my head to happen and when they did it was heart-breaking.

As I was moving towards the end of the book, it was if I was experiencing that Slow motion feeling particularly in the last 10% of the book as events, situations and realisations started to unfold. Aly’s words were such that I could see it all playing out so vividly in my mind and it was all happening in slow motion, and my heart was in my mouth. I need the next book now!!

“I was also a believer that people entered your life for a reason and it was up to you to figure out why.”

I can’t recommend this book enough; a genuinely heartfelt story that filled my heart with every possible emotion and one you really need to one click it today.

You won’t want to miss this amazing series!

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
