Catalia “Cat” Fisa is a powerful clairvoyant known as the Kingmaker. This smart-mouthed soothsayer has no interest in her powers and would much rather fly under the radar, far from the clutches of her homicidal mother. But when an ambitious warlord captures her, she may not have a choice…
Griffin is intent on bringing peace to his newly conquered realm in the magic-deprived south. When he discovers Cat is the Kingmaker, he abducts her. But Cat will do everything in her power to avoid her dangerous destiny and battle her captor at every turn. Although up for the battle, Griffin would prefer for Cat to help his people willingly, and he’s ready to do whatever it takes to coax her…even if that means falling in love with her.Amazon Uk ~ Amazon US ~ iBooks ~ Book Depository ~ B&N ~ Kobo
OMG!!! THAT ENDING!! NOOOOOO!!! Now I have to wait until January for the next book, and just…noooo!!
Okay, now that that is out of the way. I really liked Cat, the heroine. She’s super-strong, sarcastic, smart, and stubborn. A bit too stubborn, thus the 4.5 rating, but still. I liked her a lot. And Griffin, the love interest! I loved him. He only does one thing bad in this book(kidnapping Cat), but he immediately wants her to be comfortable with him. Griffin is kind, funny, and very persistent. Which means he never let Cat push him away. I appreciated that very much.
The side characters in the story were amazing. I loved the camaraderie between Griffin, Carver, Flynn, and Kato. They made such a great team, and when they took in Cat as one of their own, it was just so nice to read about. They stuck with each other no matter what, were there for each other, and just had a great friendship. I also loved Griffin’s family. And I hate Andromeda. I need her to be taken down.
Now we come to the plot and world-building. The world was a very interesting mix of magic and Greek mytholoogy. I found it a bit odd that the author used gods we have today instead of making up her own, but it didn’t really bother me. I loved the three kingdoms and all the people with magic. As for the plot? Well, it was action-packed as Cat learned to trust and love Griffin. She had an awful past and was hiding out from Andromeda, the queen of Fisa, her home kingdom. There were secrets, awesome action scenes as Cat and the team had to fight creatures and people, and the amazing romance between Griffin and Cat.
I couldn’t stop reading this story! I loved the characters, plot, and world. I already know Cat’s secret, so I’m a bit sad that she hasn’t yet told Griffin. Which is why I need the next book NOW! I need to know how things will go. I mean…Cat’s secret! Andromeda! Griffin’s ambition! I just need book 2 as fast as I can get it!
Amanda Bouchet grew up in New England where she spent much of her time tromping around in the woods and making up grand adventures in her head. It was inevitable that one day she would start writing them down. Drawing on her Greek heritage for the setting and on her love of all things daring and romantic for the rest, her debut trilogy, The Kingmaker Chronicles, took form. She writes what she loves to read: epic exploits, steamy romance, and characters that make you laugh and cry.
A French master’s graduate and former English teacher, Amanda lives in Paris, France. She met her husband while studying abroad, and the family now includes two bilingual children who will soon be correcting her French.
