Derna’s Review ~ Dirty English by @ilsamaddenmills

A scarred fighter.
A girl with rules.
One night of unbridled passion.

There are three things you need to know about Elizabeth Bennett: she’s smart as a whip, always in control, and lives by a set of carefully crafted rules. She’s learned the hard way that people you love the most always hurt you in the end.

But then she meets Declan Blay, the new neighbor at her apartment complex.

A tattooed British street fighter, he’s the campus bad boy she’s supposed to avoid, but when he saves her from a frat party gone bad, all her rules about sex and love fly out the window.

She gives him one night of unbridled passion, but he longs for more.

With only a cardboard-thin wall separating their bedrooms, he dreams of possessing the vulnerable girl next door forever.

One night. Two damaged hearts. The passion of a lifetime.

*A modern love story inspired by Pride and Prejudice*

“The British are coming, the British are coming.”

Dirty English is my first book by Ilsa Madden-Mills, and I can tell you now it will not be my last, as I absolutely loved. I have a few of her books on my Kindle but just haven’t got round to reading them yet. So when the chance to read Filthy English came up, I just knew it was the perfect opportunity to read the first book in the series. I know that Filthy English can be read as a standalone, but come on!! The series is about English twin brothers who would want to read about one and not the other certainly not me.

Dirty English was well-written, heartfelt, sexy, romantic, entertaining story with some suspense and drama added to the mix. After reading the shocking and sad prologue, I was hooked, and I had a feeling that this was going to be a great read, and it was.

“Love is a knife that cuts out your heart piece by piece….

I love Declan he was a sexy fighter, an alpha cute, funny has a heart of gold and of course very swoon worthy. I like Elizabeth she was a strong character with upfront and gutsy attitude even after all that she went through. My heart went out to her for what she was going through, and I could totally understand why she was guarded with her heart and emotions. I adored these two together.

“I won’t judge you, Declan. I have my own scars.”

“I wanted her in my skin. I wanted her in my soul. And I wanted in hers.”

What I really did love, and I would give the author a high five for how authentic she made Declan and Dax sound. I never questioned once their English side. It always makes my heart warm when I read English terms that I love and know so well in the correct context American books.

As I said this was my first by this Ilsa Madden-Mills and as I’m about to start Filthy English is not going to be my last. I like her writing style, the story flowed well, and she created characters that I adored and a few that I wanted to punch!! I’m looking forward to starting Dax’s story next. If you have not picked up a book by this author, then I highly recommend you do and start with Dirty English and fall in love with some hot sexy Brits!

New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Ilsa Madden-Mills writes about strong heroines and sexy alpha males that sometimes you just want to slap.

She’s addicted to all things fantasy, including unicorns and sword-wielding heroes in books. Other fascinations include frothy coffee beverages, dark chocolate, Instagram, Ian Somerhalder (seriously hot), astronomy (she’s a Gemini), Sephora make-up, and tattoos.

She has a degree in English and a Master’s in Education.

When she’s not pecking away on her computer, she shops for cool magnets, paints old furniture, and eats her weight in sushi.
