An old flame rekindled . . .
Zara Cinders always knew Ham Reece was the one, but he wasn’t interested in settling down. When she found someone who was, Ham walked out of her life. Three years later, Zara’s lost her business, her marriage, and she’s barely getting by in a tiny apartment on the wrong side of the tracks. As soon as Ham hears about Zara’s plight, he’s on her doorstep offering her a lifeline. Now, it will take every ounce of will power she possesses to resist all that he offers.
Ham was always a traveling man, never one to settle down in one town, with one woman, for more time than absolutely necessary. But Ham’s faced his own demons, and he’s learned a lot. About himself, and about the life he knows he’s meant to live. So when he hears that Zara’s having a rough time, he wants to be the one to help. In fact, he wants to do more than that for Zara. A lot more. But first, he must prove to Zara that he’s a changed man.

Jagged is book five in Kristen Ashley’s Colorado Mountain series and I highly recommend you only read it after reading For You book one in her Burg Series as it the story-line will make much more sense if you do.
Everyone has that one love, the person who is the one, your forever and for Zara Cinders, it was Ham Reece. Ham as much as he had strong feelings for Zara was not on the same page. He was a traveling man and not one to settle down. However, when Ham experiences something that makes him re-evaluate life and he discovers that Zara is having a rough time Ham knows he needs to help the woman who he knows deep down his forever.
“He’d been her one. It took him years to realize she was his.”
Jagged was about love, change, trust, and second chances that will make you laugh, swoon, smile and even get a little frustrated. I like Zara she was a tough cookie even after what she had been through. I really liked some of Zara’s friends, who were the type that every girl needs in her corners when things get rough. I have always agreed with the saying ‘Actions speak louder than words’ I wasn’t too sure at first, but that was what Ham was all about. He wanted to show Zara rather than just tell her. This was something that Zara didn’t see at first.
“His hand came up to cup my cheek and he whispered, “Cookie, pay attention. I’m gonna give you everything.”
Jagged was narrated by series regular Emma Taylor. So I knew what to expect Emma did a good job of conveying the main character’s emotions and the fun side of some of the secondary characters. Of course, it made me laugh when I heard her do Nina’s over the top English accent again. Loved that Max and Nina were in this one.
A friend at work mentioned said do you not get bored of listening to the same books by the same author back to back? And my response was no because with KA books I have listened too so far yes there’s something familiar about them, but each one is unique with their own surprise. If I was to say anything about Jagged it would be after listening to the first four books I was expecting more drama and suspense. I was waiting for it to happen. However, I got to a point where I knew that Zara and Ham’s story wasn’t about that. I didn’t mind too much it was something different.
“You promise to hold on to me, I’ll promise to hold on to you and we’ll make it through.”
So although this wasn’t my favourite, it still had a lot of what I love about KA and her writing sexy alpha males, sassy heroines, sexy times, and a good story with a lovely ending. Next up for my listening pleasure is Kaleidoscope #6 in the Colorado Mountain series.
Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!).
Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.
Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).
Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.
And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.
