I can’t believe how quickly 2015 flew by, and how many amazing books I got to experience last year! I finished off last year with a total of 118 books– crazy! But I loved every moment. While I still read quite a bit of contemporary last year, I gravitated even more towards my true love– paranormal and fantasy. I discovered some incredible series and fell in love with several new-to-me authors. I laughed, I cried (and cried some more), I was on the edge of my seat all year, and I can’t wait to see what 2016 will bring. I’ll be honest, I haven’t been keeping up with new releases as much as I normally do– holidays, family, and real life responsibilities have really gotten in the way of that. But, after taking a look at my ever-expanding TBR list, I did find a few books that I’m super excited about!
I stumbled across this first series in November of last year and was completely consumed by the first four books! I was in the mood for something gritty and sensual, and that’s just what I got in this series. Each book focuses on a different couple, and they get better and better as the series continues. If you like tough-as-nails heroes with dirty mouths and strong heroines, you’ll love this series. Sexy, brutal, extremely well-written– this series is all of these things and more.
Bound by Vengeance (Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles #5) by Cora Reilly
He’d never had something to himself, never even dared to dream about owning something so precious. He was the unwanted bastard son who’d always had to content himself with the leftovers of others. And now they’d given him what only a few weeks ago ha
d been out of his reach, someone he wasn’t even allowed to admire from afar, one of their most prized possessions. Thrown at his feet because he was who he was, because they were certain he would break her. He was her punishment, a fate worse than death, a way to deliver the ultimate punishment to her father who had displeased them so greatly.
She had always been the good girl. It didn’t protect her.
She didn’t know his real name. People called him Growl to his face, and the Bastard behind his back. Both were names he couldn’t possibly have chosen for himself. His eyes were empty, a mirror to throw back her own fear at her. He was a brutal hand of the Las Vegas Camorra. And now she was at his mercy.

This next series is fairly new, but has quickly become one of my favorites, which might just be because it’s from an author I absolutely adore. The main character here is actually from another series by this same author, and has such a huge personality. He’s witty and sexy, and makes for some serious laugh-out-loud moments. The heroine of this series is one that we’re still getting to know, but I love everything about her so far. This author is well-known for writing strong-willed, kickass girls who have a mind of their own and are refreshingly authentic. If you enjoy books with lots of action, and enjoy reading about mythology and the like, this one is for you.
The Power (Titan #2) by Jennifer Armentrout
With any great change, there is always strife, and the Covenant University has become the frontline between pure-bloods who want the Breed Order reinstated and the half-bloods who want the right to control their own destinies. Fate has other plans.
The violence is escalating and war between the races seems inevitable, and it couldn’t come at a worse time. Hyperion may be out of commission, but Josie and Seth know they have only earned a reprieve. Seth must get Josie fully prepared, which means controlling her newfound abilities, and they need to find the other demigods before the Titans do. But the gods are sensing a greater threat.
Only one thing is more dangerous than a bunch of starved Titans, and that’s an out-of-control Apollyon. The aether in Josie is drawing Seth in deeper, and when lust mixes with love and gives way to power, he knows being close to her is not only dangerous to her, but to everyone around them, but letting her go requires a level of selflessness that just isn’t Seth’s style.
The paths taken in the past are becoming the roads of the future.
Just as chaos breaks out, familiar faces from the past return, complicating the already strained bond between Josie and Seth, and when the danger from the Titans erupts with devastating consequences, the dark allure of power calls to Seth again, but this time Josie might not be able to pull him back.
And when the struggle between power and love becomes the deadliest battleground, there may be no salvation.

Going again with something from JLA, she has a new series coming out that I’m dying to get my hands on. This is a series that is sure to pull at your heartstrings. The blurb hints at abuse, pain, and a girl coming into her own and overcoming her difficult past. Sure to make me cry like a baby (To be fair, that’s not a difficult thing to do with me!), I’m beyond excited for the release of this contemporary YA. And can we just take a moment to gawk at this gorgeous cover? *sigh*
The Problem with Forever by Jennifer Armentrout
For some people, silence is a weapon. For Mallory “Mouse” Dodge, it’s a shield. Growing up, she learned that the best way to survive was to say nothing. And even though it’s been four years since her nightmare ended, she’s beginning to worry that the fear that holds her back will last a lifetime.
Now, after years of homeschooling with loving adoptive parents, Mallory must face a new milestone—spending her senior year at public high school. But of all the terrifying and exhilarating scenarios she’s imagined, there’s one she never dreamed of—that she’d run into Rider Stark, the friend and protector she hasn’t seen since childhood, on her very first day.
It doesn’t take long for Mallory to realize that the connection she shared with Rider never really faded. Yet the deeper their bond grows, the more it becomes apparent that she’s not the only one grappling with the lingering scars from the past. And as she watches Rider’s life spiral out of control, Mallory faces a choice between staying silent and speaking out—for the people she loves, the life she wants, and the truths that need to be heard.
The next book on my list is another from one of my favorite authors. And with another beautiful cover, at that! I first fell in love with this author’s writing when reading her Significance series. She’s the queen of sugary sweet romance and happily-ever-afters, and you can’t help but fall in love with her genuine and charming characters. She’s releasing the first book in a brand new series sometime this year and my grabby hands will be all over this one. I absolutely cannot wait!
The Other Side of Gravity by Shelly Crane
My name is Maxton and I’m a trader.
I live on a soulless planet where gravity, oxygen, and everything else are sold to the highest bidder on the black market. People are sold on the black market, too. You have to work really hard not to become one of those people. Pay your taxes, keep your friends and family close, and more than anything else—don’t get caught by the Militia. But all the rules changed for me the day I found her.
My name is Sophelia and I’m a stowaway.
I’ve been a slave for almost as long as I can remember. Waiting for the one day, one second, for my proprietor to turn his head so I could run and never look back. Now I’m on the run. And on a planet where no one is on your side and people would turn you in for a good meal or a piece of a silver, being on the run on Landu is the last place you want to be. Until he found me.
I won’t survive without him.
I can’t breathe without her.
This next book on my list is a paranormal that I’m so very excited for! As far as readers knew, the last book in this series had already been released. Thankfully, the author decided to surprise us all with the announcement of one. More. Book. Yes, it’s a retelling through our hero’s eyes, but it will be amazing to experience this incredible story all over again. Romance, action, mystery, this series has it all– definitely a must read!
Warrior by Karen Lynch
The warrior has finally met his match.
Nikolas Danshov is the Mohiri’s finest warrior, fearless and lethal with any weapon. For almost two hundred years, he has devoted his life to keeping humans safe from the demons that walk the earth. Revered by his people, he is a legend in his own time, a warrior undefeated in battle, and prepared for anything. Until her.
On a routine job in Maine, a twist of fate brings Nikolas face-to-face with the one person he had never expected to meet – his mate. Sara Grey is unlike anyone he’s ever met. Beautiful and fiery, she ignites his desire, while her innocence and vulnerability awaken a fierce protectiveness in him. Now all he can think of is keeping his mate safe from the dangers that hunt her, even if she fights him at every turn.
You know Sara’s story. Now read it again, through the eyes of her warrior.
